Anvil Records are jumping for you with the release of the first solo record by former Kitty Bronx wildchild Simon Baxter. Now under the monkier title of 1.99 Ghost (the price of his soul, everybody has a price) his debut 7" features the home-made delights of such as title track 'Follow That Crow', 'Animal Fat' and the sublime 'Roses', all recorded with a twist of incubated irony and slices of batterred funk. Playing all instruments including Drums, Banjo, Bass, Cello and a tiny tiny flute. Combining his extra dimension vocals and improvised instrumentation, the Ghost delivers a sample free recording that harps back to the great 'garage' era of the early 60's when Funk ruled the airwaves and Soul was served in canteens across the western world. In a Recent interview for style magazine Dazed & Confused, 1.99 describes his music as "the sound of Hummus oozing doon the street". Check out 1.99's own sleevenotes on the single 'Follow That Crow' for further diagnosis. |
