In 2005 Phil Passera and Sonny Baxter returned to the studio after a 5 year break.
First appearing in 1998 as KITTY BRONX - their debut 'FIRST OFFENCE' EP was championed by the Stereo MC's and sampled by Fat Boy Slim.
Reforming in 2005 as L E O N L A C E, the band's new agenda was to not include any samples of other artists, but to perform and record 100% original material.
Where as KITTY BRONX assembled new songs entirely from old ones using the DJ friendly AKAI sampler,
L E O N L A C E set out to redress the balance.
This involved building a new recording studio in a condemned building in East London's Whitechapel - on the spot of Jack the Ripper's 3rd murder - and compiling as many vintage instruments and microphones to achieve the audio quality of the 1970s that has never been surpassed.
Henriques Street as featured on the record sleeve was the source of much of the musical inspiration for the band's new direction.
Inspired by the store fronts and shop signs of the cheap clothes wholesale outlets, the run down industrial areas and compact council housing estates, L E O N L A C E set out to create Instrumental music that both excites and calms.
Ranging from authentic slow funk to mid tempo space disco - L E O N L A C E paint from a palette of Jazz, Funk, and Soulful Disco to navigate through the urban landscape.
November 2009 sees the release of 'Live From Henriques St.' EP. Available on 12" Vinyl and Download only.
