Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, 23 year old singer-songwriter James Marples grew up imitating his father, a folk singer from England. James revealed an early penchant for the melancholic side of life when he penned his first song at age 11, the true story of two of his schoolmates who died in an accident.

Lyrically his songs draw on the kind of melancholic imagery used by Nick Cave, and Leonard Cohen, with gentle guitar picking and intimate vocal delivery at its core.
